Where To Find The Right Commercial Lighting Fixtures
Commercial lighting fixtures need to be of a completely different design and substance from those commonly used in residential homes. Even within the world of commercial lighting, however, there are many different types of lighting as buildings can be of a completely different size and shape. The lighting which is needed in the typical mom and pop retail store is very different from the lighting which is used in a giant commercial warehouse, so finding the right units to suit your situation is the most important part of choosing your lighting.
Design is of little or no importance in many commercial situations. In warehouses, for instance, there are no members of the public who ever enter the premises, and even if they were they would only expect to see functional lighting within. Warehouses need a huge amount of light, so the accent is very much on economics as well as making the lighting easy to clean and manage. This has led to one regrettable development in that poor quality fluorescent lighting is used in many commercial buildings, very much to the detriment of those who work there.
Fluorescent lighting is cheap and easy, but the light which is given out does not cover the full spectrum and people who work long hours under it are prone to headaches, to constantly feeling lethargic and listless, and to wondering why their morale is so low. Often, the use of fluorescent lights is a false economy, as the company will have far higher rates of absenteeism, more incidences of breach of discipline or non-compliance, and a greatly reduced work output. In some parts of the world this type of lighting is outlawed, and your business will benefit greatly if you can find and implement a superior alternative.
The commercial lighting fixtures which are used in large buildings are always ceiling mounted, which allows for as many strips of lighting to be erected as are needed. These strips have often been fluorescent ever since the end of World War II when this type of lighting was developed as a temporary expedient, but they can be any type of lighting. Even in smaller offices there is a strong tendency for ceiling mounted lighting, as this gives out the most light for the power which is being consumed. If there are shadows being created, there is always the possibility of using dedicated desk lamps to provide extra lighting.
In commercial restaurants and bars, and in some mom and pop stores, wall lighting is often used to create the right type of atmosphere. Catering establishments especially are operating in a highly competitive industry, where there are plenty of alternatives to each individual eating place for people to choose from. People need to feel comfortable in such places, and the soft lighting is a part of creating this relaxed atmosphere. Owners of such establishments are prepared to spend far more on lighting fixtures than an office or warehouse owner would be, as there is a need to entice the public off the streets and into the commercial building.
It is usual to buy commercial lighting fixtures in bulk as this will result in a substantial savings. If the shop, warehouse or office is part of a chain it is likely that the fittings will all be bought in one transaction as this will save the organization money. If you don't have the same bulk buying power, you can still achieve substantial savings from shopping at lighting warehouses which sell to the trade, and you may be able to get a discount if you combine your lighting purchase with other fittings which you will need. It is usually cheaper to shop locally for commercial lighting fixtures.
